To Do One or To Be One?

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Isaiah 41:10 NLT

It was Easter Sunday 2020. My husband had been voted in as pastor of our small church just five weeks prior and on that Sunday we stepped into an empty church. Due to the dreaded c-word, for the first time in all our lives Easter Sunday service would be completely online. Live streamed church was now the new normal. As he began his sermon he had everyone out in online world look to whomever you had sitting next to you and say seven words that ultimately changed the course of my walk with God. “Don’t do a devotion, be a devotion.”

I wrote that statement down in my notes as I was sitting alone in an empty church and left it there. But God.... He began a stir in my heart that very day that I’m quite sure I wasn’t ready for. I knew God was calling me to write long before then but each time I felt a pull I did the traditional church girl thing and said, Ok God I’ll pray about it. (Insert eye roll) Just a note here for any of you who felt that statement crunch all over your toes. If you feel a calling from God so strongly about something, you can still pray about it but do it as you are also doing what He called you to do! Not starting that blog, not surrendering to that ministry, not applying for that job is basically you telling God you can handle your life better on your own terms. If you choose to pray about, knowing fully He is calling you to it but you choose to wait and not take any steps until you are ready, have the money, or whatever the excuse is… friend, can I tell you something? Delayed obedience is still disobedience. Just keeping it real, y’all!

Don’t do one…but BE one.

How much of an oxymoron is it that? The very statement you just read is the very reason you are reading this right now. The Tuesday after that very different Easter service I put pen to paper. Now I’d like to sit and tell you I started and didn’t stop but this very page you are reading took over two years to be typed and published on this blog. Just being real with you all.

Here we are two years later and my husband has brought back a reloaded version of the series this quote came from so hence you are reading this blog because God smacked me straight in the back of the head with it, yet again!

So let me ask you, have you ever felt God calling you to something greater? Are you in a place where you know your walk with Him could be stronger or more intense? Do you have a desire to do more for His kingdom? Are you stuck stumbling over the who, what, where, when and how? I pray that you can take those deep passions to please Him, utilize them for the purposes of Him, all while being obedient to the calling from Him.

I pray that you can take those deep passions to please Him, utilize them for the purposes of Him, all while being obedient to the calling from Him.

God has a deep desire to see us fulfill and fully embrace the callings He has on our lives to the utmost use for Him. As we lay down all of our doubts and fears, I pray we can all become more on fire for Him than ever before. I pray we can ignite the Holy Spirit flame inside of us and let go of the lazy gospel. I pray He activates the drive and fierce force of the warriors we are each holding deep within. It’s time to step up. It’s time to go! If you are ready then spend the next few moments in prayer asking God if there is anything you are supposed to be doing for Him that you are not. Maybe you already know what that is. Make the decision today to live in full, immediate obedience to God. I think you may be surprised at just how much different your life will be.

Until next time,

Robyn 💕🤟🏼
